Compulsive Gambling: a Closer Look
Gambling, according to a person whom once I considered my greatest friend is nothing but a golden pot of gold. Well, I would say it is not until I became gambling addicted…gambling lord as they call me…
Gambling is a form of winning additional money through wagering of money or certain valuable material in a compromising game of win or loses. There is really nothing wrong in engage g in certain games to win money by wagering money, not until you can no longer stop it.
Problem gambling is gambling behaviour which causes disruptions in any major area of life: psychological, physical, social or vocational. Pathologically speaking, compulsive gambling is a form of addiction. Compulsive gambling is characterized by increasing preoccupation with gambling, a need to bet more money more frequently, restlessness or irritability when attempting to stop, "chasing" losses, and loss of control manifested by continuation of the gambling behaviour in spite of mounting, serious, negative consequences.
Compulsive gambling is the uncontrollable urge to keep gambling despite the toll it takes on your life. If you're prone to compulsive gambling, you may continually chase bets, may lie or hide your behaviour, and may resort to theft or fraud to support your addiction. Compulsive gambling is a serious condition that can destroy lives. Although treating compulsive gambling can be challenging, many compulsive gamblers have found help through professional treatment.
How do we know if a person is a compulsive gambler?
A person who enters a casino is never always a gambler, I mean; gambling progresses over time…it is something to be correlated to the duration of engaging in such activities o r money games. In fact, you may spend years enjoying social gambling without any ill effects. Eventually, you become almost completely preoccupied with gambling and getting money to gamble…this time, I would have to say that your gambling is being a big problem already.
Pathologically speaking once again, signs of compulsive gambling would include:
• Gaining a thrill from taking big gambling risks
• Taking increasingly bigger gambling risks
• A preoccupation with gambling
• Taking time from work or family life to gamble
• Concealing gambling
• Feeling guilt or remorse after gambling
• Borrowing money or stealing to gamble
• Failed efforts to cut back on gambling
• Lying to hide gambling
Compulsive gambling is indeed an impulse-control disorder needing a remedy. This means that you're not able to resist engaging in such behaviour making it harmful to you or to someone else. A gambling rehab is basically the best solution.
